    Notre Dame College Mymensingh

    2008 AD During the centenary celebration of Catholicism in Mymensingh Province, Venerable Bishop of Mymensingh Province, Paul Panen Kubi, CSC requested the Holy Cross Pastoral Society to establish a new Notre Dame College. He expressed optimism that another ‘Notre Dame College’ should be established on the model of the traditional Notre Dame College established in Dhaka, so that higher education can be made more accessible between Mymensingh and the northern region. 2009 AD: In the general meeting of the Holy Cross Pastoral Society, a decision was taken to establish Notre Dame College in Mymensingh. A committee was formed and Father Bakul S. Rosario, CSC, was given the responsibility of convenor for the feasibility and implementation of the establishment of the college. The committee bought four acres of land in Badera Bypass Mor area in discussion with the Bishop and local dignitaries. Soon after the purchase of the land for the establishment of the new college, its rapid development work was started. The designated place was a paddy field and somewhere a water body. Its development work started by filling the soil and building walls.

    The foundation stone of the new college was laid by Archbishop Joseph Marino, Vatican Ambassador to Bangladesh. At this historic moment, the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Alhaj Principal Matiur Rahman, Bishop Paul Panen Kubi, CSC of Mymensingh Dharmapradesh, Holy Cross Pastor Sangher Pradeshpal Fr. Superintendent of Police and other dignitaries were present. On May 8, 2014 Fr. Bakul S. Rosario, CSC officially assumed the duties of the first principal of the newly established college. Father Thaddeus Hembram, CSC, is in charge of the co-educational program of the college and Father Placide Prashant Rosario, CSC, is the student director and advisor of the college. After taking office, the fathers first appointed office colleagues and then teachers, and the organization of its education began. Notre Dame College Mymensingh started a new history on 1st July 2014 AD by welcoming 658 students and 18 teachers.     Anand Mohan College nurtured in centuries of tradition is one of the best colleges in Bangladesh. This college has a rich and glorious history. Anand Mohal College was established in 1908 but its operations started in 1909. The name associated with this great initiative is one of the greatest Bengali educationists, politicians, social reformers Barrister Anand Mohan Bose was established on January 1, 1883 at his ancestral house at Ram Babu Road, Mymensingh. By “Mymensingh Institution”. Anandmohan Bose was one of the most influential members of the first Education Commission set up by the Government of India in 1882. Moreover, he was the founder of City College, Calcutta. City College was managed by a council consisting of several eminent academicians of Calcutta, with Anandmohan Bose as its president. Mymensingh Institution was named as “Mymensingh City Collegiate School” from April 1980. In 1899, when Anandmohan Bose came to Mymensingh from Calcutta, along with the local enthusiastic residents of Mymensingh, “Mymensingh Sabha” and “Anjumane Islamia” demanded the establishment of a college in Mymensingh. In view of this demand, the President of Calcutta City College Council, Anand Mohan Bose, converted the City Collegiate School into a second-class college named ‘Mymensingh City College’ on 18 July 1901. Initially, Mymensingh City College was managed with the financial support of the Calcutta City College Council , it was recognized as a second grade college by the Calcutta University in April 1902. In the meantime, a paved building was built for the college at Purobagh in 1906. First, after the death of Anandmohan Bose Calcutta City College Council presented a demand to University of Calcutta for separation of Mymensingh City College from Calcutta City College due to financial problems. In this context, on March 31, 1908, Calcutta University withdrew the affiliation of Mymessingh City College from Calcutta City College. In this situation, the activities of the college were about to be stopped. Then Principal Baikunthanath Chakraborty took the initiative to reorganize the college and the then District Magistrate Mr. J. R. Blackwood revived the college with the help of local academics and dynamists. The committee took charge of the management and all expenses of the college and made vigorous efforts to procure funds and new premises for the college. The Committee met with the Divisional Commissioner for grant-in-aid of the then thinking government.

    Mymensingh Government College (formerly: Govt. Commercial Institute, Mymensingh) is a higher secondary level educational institution in Bangladesh, located in the city of Mymensingh.[1] The only government-run institution in the greater Mymensingh region for business education, it was established in 1966 and known under its current name since 1984. gains According to the directives of the National Education Commission in 1959, the then government in the 16 district headquarters of East Pakistan ‘Gov. “Commercial Institute” was decided to be set up and consequently with the financial and technical support of USAID, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Chittagong, Feni, Comilla, Khulna, Jessore, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna.     Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam College is a higher secondary educational institution located at Town Hall Junction in Mymensingh. In 1989, some of the beloved students, colleagues and well-wishers of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam established the Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Memorial Parishad in Mymensingh in an effort to preserve his illustrious career. On July 1, 1999, Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Memorial Parishad established “Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam College” in the abandoned building of Kashi Kishore Technical School on Shyamacharan Roy Road in the heart of the city.

    Soon after the establishment of “Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Smriti Parishad” in 1989, a proposal to establish an educational institution to preserve the memory of this great personality came up in the meetings of the organization. But a lot of time passes before formal initiatives are taken. In 1995, parents became worried when higher secondary classes were removed from Anand Mohan College, the only government institution for higher secondary students in Mymensingh city. As other private colleges in the city have not completed the quality standards or any institution has not been nationalized by the government, the matter has become a demand of the people of Mymensingh. On August 28, 1998, in the meeting of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Smriti Parishad, a standard was completed and the issue of establishing a college named after Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam was included in the agenda. In the meeting held at the private laboratory high school, the chief lawyer and convener of the memorial council M. The proposal to change the name of the Private Laboratory High School to “Syed Nazrul Islam School and College” as there is a public and a private high school of the same name in Mymensingh under the chairmanship of Mr. Zubed Ali was unanimously accepted and a letter was sent to the School Management Committee for sympathetic consideration and action. A request was made on behalf of the Martyr Syed Nazrul Islam Smriti Parishad for acceptance. When the matter came to light, majority of the parents of the school expressed their support. The head teacher of the school is Vir Muktijoddha MA. Kasem discussed the matter in detail with the then Deputy Commissioner Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam. A general meeting of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Smriti Parishad was held on May 6, 1999 at the office of District Red Crescent Society. Former Principal of Anand Mohan College Professor Shamsul Islam, Former Head of Department of Physics Professor Abul Kalam, Former Principal of Netrakona Government College Professor Mujibur Rahman, Former Principal of Anand Mohan College Professor Md Mujibur Rahman attended the meeting as invited guests. In the meeting, eminent educationists pledged to establish a college in the name of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam and to contribute towards the establishment of the college. In the meeting, a 20-member college organizing committee as well as establishment committee was formed by consensus.

    Muminunnesa Govt. Women’s College, Mymensingh or Muminunnesa College in short, is a women’s public college located opposite Town Hall of Mymensingh near the Brahmaputra river in Bangladesh. It was established in 1946 and was named after Muminunnesa Khan, mother of a businessman M. R. Khan. Initially established as a private college. Renowned social reformer M.R. Khan donated the land and major portion of the finance and helped develop the infrastructure of the college with a view to establishing the college after the name of his mother Muminunnisa. The then Director of Mass Education Mr. Md. Shamsul Haq inaugurated the college on July 29, 1959. The Founder-Principal of the college was educationist Alhaj Reazuddin Ahmed. Science group started in the H.S class in 1961. The college was upgraded to a Degree college in 1963. In March 1980, the college was nationalized. Honours courses in six disciplines were introduced from the academic session 1998-99 under National University, Gazipur. And Masters Final course was introduced from 2001 to 2002. Honours courses in three more subjects were introduced in 2006–2007. Honours courses in Botany and Zoology were introduced in the session 2012-2013 and 2014-2015 respectively. It offers undergraduate and post-graduate courses in different faculties including Humanities and Science. It has a halls of residence within the campus. The college uniform is a red vest with white shorts or skirts and white socks and shoes.

    Alamgir Mansoor (Mintu) Memorial College, Mymensingh is a college located in Mymensingh city affiliated to National University. The college was established in the name of Shaheed Alamgir Mansoor Mintur, who was killed in police firing on 24 January 1969 [he was shot dead by police firing during a procession near the Zilla School dormitory on Boundary Road]. Co-education program is running here. Alamgir Mansoor Mintu was martyred on January 24 in the 1969 nation-wide uprising against Ayub Khan. He was shot dead near the Zilla School dormitory on Boundary Road in police firing during the protest march. Alamgir Mansoor Mintu was born on January 1, 1948 in Kelia village under Dhamrai police station in Dhaka district. Mintu College was established in the same year with the support of former President of Bangladesh Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam, then General Secretary of Mymensingh District Awami League, Md. Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan and others in order to preserve the memory of his dear student, the then young professor of Zoology Department of Nasirabad College and the former Minister of Religion of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
