    Faujdarhat Cadet College

    Faujdarhat Cadet College(FCC), is a military high school (grade 7 to grade 12), modelled after public schools in the UK (according to the Public Schools Act 1868), financed partially by the Bangladesh Army, located at Faujdarhat, near Chittagong, in Bangladesh.

    Faujdarhat Cadet College boards 300 boys between the ages of 12 and 18, 50 in each year for grades 7 to 12. Admission is through a nationwide test composed of written, oral, medical examinations & ISSB.

    It was the first cadet college to be established by Field Marshall Muhammad Ayub Khan in erstwhile East Pakistan facing the Bay of Bengal. It was established on 28 April 1958[1] by New Zealander William Maurice Brown. Until 1965, it was known as the East Pakistan Cadet College.

    The principal of the school is ranked lieutenant colonel, and is appointed by the Adjutant General’s branch of the Bangladesh Army.

    From 2003, the cadet colleges in Bangladesh were converted to the English version of the National curriculum.

    Chittagong College is a public educational institution in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is a higher secondary school and also a degree awarding college of National University. It is the second higher secondary school in Bangladesh, established in 1871 after the Dhaka College. It was previously affiliated by the University of Chittagong.

    Having begun as Chattogram District school (now Chittagong Collegiate School) in 1836, it became an intermediate college on 2 January 1869. Its academic activities as a college started at a Portuguese-merchant-built building beside the Parade Ground. The first principal was J C Bose. Initially, it used to offer law education, but the subject was suspended in 1909. In the same year, it started providing science education in the intermediate section from the 1909. The institute became a graduation college in 1910 after University of Calcutta recognized it as a first class degree college. From then it started providing honours degrees on Arabic, Bengali, Pali, Sanskrit, history, mathematics, physics and chemistry. In 1919, supplementary courses on English, economics and philosophy were introduced. In 1942, honours courses in Economics started. The college suspended its honours programme in 1955. But, it reintroduced honours courses on English, Bangla, economics, physics, chemistry and mathematics in 1960. B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) courses on zoology and botany and B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) /B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) course on statistics were introduced in 1962.

    After the partition of the country in 1947, when a quarter of the share of ‘The Commercial Institute’ of Calcutta was transferred to Pakistan, the responsibility was given to Professor Abdus Samad. After much deliberation, he finally chose Chittagong, the commercial city of the newly formed East Pakistan. He left for Chittagong with the typewriter, books, files and other equipment found in the Commercial Institute. Coming to Chittagong, Professor Samad asked Dotana where it could be installed. Because, there was no place to be found. When Prof. Abdus Samad’s previous acquaintance and the then principal of Chittagong College, Abu Hena, discussed this matter, he offered to make it a department of his college. Principal Samad’s intention was to make it a completely separate institute instead of just a department. Therefore, without responding to this proposal, Professor Samad continued to look for alternatives. Finally, the current GPO under Kotwali police station. The journey of ‘Chittagong College of Commerce’ i.e. the current Government Commerce College began by temporarily renting the entire two floors of Shuktara Building in front of (General Post Office). This specialized educational institution plays an important role in meeting the various needs of the commercial and business activities of the newly divided country, especially banks, insurance, industries and trade. The Final Day Course (now SSC) and B.Com classes were started here in September 1947. Principal Samad used to encourage the students to study commerce.

    17th October, 1961. The then Station Commander Colonel Ahmed Ali Sheik, T.P.K. – invited the then President of Pakistan Field Martial Md. Ayub Khan. NPK, H.J. to inaugurate the foundation of this institution. According to the society registration act XXI 1860, this institution was established by Chittagong Cantonment Public School Foundation. From 23rd October 1961 this institution started its journey. After that many gracious and affluent men came forward to make this great endeavor successful with monetary and moral support. Behind it there were sincerity and generosity. Rtd. Lt. Colonel M. Sordar Khan (Army Education Corps) was appointed as the first Principal of this institution. He had the experience of academic and administrative works of cadet College and Public School. At last with 24 students and 03 teachers the academic curriculum started. At the beginning of 1970 many highly educated and experienced persons were appointed as the teachers. At that time foreign teachers were also appointed to teach foreign language.

    On 1st January, 1971, this institution achieved its first recognition from Secondary and Higher secondary Board of Education, Camilla. Then in class IX humanities group was introduced. During the liberation war of 1971, this institution had to face a great loss.     Chittagong Government Women’s College is a government owned college only for women. It is located at Nasirabad area in Chittagong. It was established in 1957. The purpose of establishing a women’s institution was offering education to the women in restrictive families in Bangladesh. Thus some social reformers and educationalists tried to make an institution only for women in Chittagong. Thus they founded Chittagong Government Women’s College. Its academic and administrative works started in Victoria Islamic Hostel just beside the Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque. In the beginning, it started its activities with only 150 students and 8 teachers. The teachers taught without any salary. The first principal of this institution was Sri Jogesh Chandra Singha. Badsha Mia Chowdhury and some social reformers offered 20 acres land for this institution at Khulshi area in Chittagong. In 1961/1962, the institution moved here from its initial place. It nationalized in 1968. Business studies group started in 2006–2007.

    Government City College, Chittagong is a public educational institution in Chittagong, Bangladesh. It is a higher secondary school and also a degree awarding college of National University. It is the second higher secondary school in Bangladesh, established in 1954. In 1954, when eminent educationist, former professor of Chittagong College, Mr. Ashab Uddin was elected MLA of United Front, Mr. Badiul Chalam, the famous industrialist of Chittagong, organized a tea party at his residence in his honor. Many dignitaries were invited to this tea party. In order to improve the education of the backward common people, Mr. Ashab Uddin proposed to establish a night college in Chittagong city in front of all present. Everyone agreed to this proposal. In that meeting, a nine-member ad hoc committee was formed to establish the college. The name of the college was fixed as Chittagong Night College. The journey of City College, Chittagong basically starts from here. In 1954, a meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee was held in Chittagong Municipal Auditorium. Mr. Ali dissolved the ad hoc committee in the meeting A full-fledged college management committee was formed with Ahmad Master as the president and Mr. Badsha Mia Chowdhury, a renowned philanthropist, as the secretary. According to the decision of the management committee meeting, the temporary office of Chittagong Night College was opened in Chittagong Municipal High School building in July 1954. is Former professor of Chittagong College Babu Yogesh Chandra Sinha was appointed as the principal of the college and the student admission program was started. On August 18, classes were opened at Kazem Ali High School. Due to the increase in the number of students, the authorities shifted the college campus from here to the Victoria Islamia Hostel (now Muslim Education Society) building on 30th June. Day branch was opened in the college on 1st July 1957. As a result, the name of the college has to be changed. read All members of the College Management Committee on 1st July 1962. Unanimously changed the name of the college to City College, Chittagong. In the same year the college campus was shifted from the aforesaid location to the present location.
